Department of Psychology: Dr. David Crystal
Dr. Crystal will travel to Tokyo, Japan to develop a long-term research project to investigate the relationship between social support and pro-social behavior among youth in Japan and the United States. This project is being undertaken in collaboration with Dr. Hiroshi Azuma of Seisen Jogakuin College, one of Japan's best-known developmental psychologists. - Europe
McDonough School of Business: Dr. Claudiu Dimofte
Dr. Dimofte will travel to Basel, Switzerland to work on a project called "The Implicit Activation of Social Identities and Group Resource Allocation." Conducted in collaboration with Professor Arnd Florack of the University of Basel, this project seeks to compare the impact of implicit awareness of social group membership on the allocation of positive and negative rewards among members of one's in-group and out-group, respectively. While in Basel, Professor Dimofte will be collecting experimental data from Swiss research subjects.

Department of Spanish and Portuguese: Dr. Cristina Sanz
Dr. Sanz is traveling to Barcelona, Spain to collaborate with Professor Emili Boix of the Universitat de Barcelona on a study of Catalan language and identity. The purpose of the visit is to complete data gathering and analysis on the first phase of the study, which deals with reactions to the recent elections to the Presidency of the Catalan government. The completed results of the study will be published in an upcoming edited volume. - Europe
Department of French: Dr. Guy Spielmann
Dr. Spielmann will travel to Nancy and Grenoble in France to work with Dr. Anne Verdier of the Université de Nancy II and Dr. Martial Poirson of the Université Stendhal in Grenoble. Their project, entitled "Early Modern Stagecraft: A Research/Practice Nexus," interweaves research and practice through the performance of "Parades," fairground comedies from the early 18th century. This innovative research method will further scholars' understanding of Early Modern theater.

Department of Chemistry: Dr. Timothy Warren
While on sabbatical at the University of Erlangen in Germany, Dr. Warren will work with Professor Karsten Meyer on a project entitled "Physical Characterization of Reactive Catalytic Intermediates." Dr. Warren will use equipment available in Erlangen to collect raw research data and work with his colleagues to develop analytical methods to be applied back at Georgetown. - Latin America
Department of Chemistry: Dr. Richard Weiss
Dr. Weiss traveled to the Ninth Latin American Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry (CLAFQO9) in Los Cocos, Córdoba, Argentina. This meeting resulted in new collaborations with scholars at the University of Costa Rica, the University of Buenos Aires, and the University of Rio Cuarto. Professor Weiss also delivered one of the plenary lectures and the conference's closing remarks.
