Guidelines for Links with Peer Institutions

In response to faculty members' expressed interest to establish closer links with universities abroad, we are pursuing this interest by initiating links with universities abroad focusing on short-term faculty exchanges and professional development programs. We are also exploring future possible joint- or dual-degree programs with a small number of institutions abroad.

To propose a link with a foreign university, we ask that faculty members complete the University Link Application Form (.pdf format). To ensure that these links result in mutual academic benefits, the Faculty Committee for International Initiatives has established the following criteria:

  • A recognized/accredited university
  • Support by more than one academic unit or discipline
  • Evidence that the link will further Georgetown University's teaching and research mission
  • Exchanges will not unduly interfere with regular teaching and service obligations to the University and its students
  • Approval from Dean(s)

The University has initiated a dialogue with Oxford University. The University has established a formal link with the University of Florence in Italy and Sciences Po in Paris. In the Middle East, Georgetown has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Jordan, Al Balqa Applied University in Jordan, and Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman. We anticipate links with other universities in various parts of the world.

Faculty members interested in forming a link with a university should send a short proposal with supporting documentation. The Faculty Committee will review the request and respond as expeditiously as possible. An agreement between the two institutions will be drafted, reviewed by the University Counsel and submitted to the President of the University for official approval.
