Founded at the College of William and Mary in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is an academic honor society that recognizes scholarly attainment in the liberal arts and sciences.  The Georgetown Chapter, Delta of the District of Columbia, was founded in 1964.

Membership is extended to up to ten percent of the graduating class from the School of Foreign Service, the College, and the School of Health.

The Georgetown Chapter annual initiation ceremony for seniors is held on the Thursday preceding Commencement Weekend. Students invited for membership as juniors will participate in the ceremony during their senior year.

At the initiation ceremony, each student will receive a Phi Beta Kappa Membership Certificate. If initiates wish to purchase keys, they may do so through the Phi Beta Kappa national office.
