Main Campus Research
The Provost’s Office supports faculty research across the main campus, including overseeing research administration, internal grants, and policies to support research activities.
Research at Georgetown is managed primarily by Georgetown Research Services, which includes the Joint Office for Research Administration (for sponsored research administration), the Office of Human Subjects Protection (for IRB), and the Office of Research Oversight (for compliance and research integrity). Descriptions of the processes and policies for sponsored research are available on those websites, and summarized on our external funding resources page. Relations with foundations and corporate partners are managed by the Office of Institutional Partners, and the Office of Technology Commercialization connects our research with application by supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.

Main Campus Research activities are under the direction of the Vice Provost for Research, Professor Jeff Urbach. A faculty member of the Department of Physics at Georgetown since 1996, Jeff has served in the position of Vice Provost since January 2024. The goal of the office is to expand and enhance the research portfolio on the Main Campus, and to fully integrate students into the research enterprise. Professor Urbach chairs the Research Executive Committee, comprised of representatives from the Main Campus and the Law Center, which provides advice and strategic guidance.
