Teaching and Learning Innovations

New ways of advancing the work of formation and scholarship

Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS)

CNDLS encourages postsecondary educators to critically review their teaching practices. CNDLS helps them implement their big ideas, support their research, and incorporate technology into their course design. We consult with them as they refine new educational approaches and design programs for assessment so that they understand their impact on students. We’re proud to have participated in a variety of projects that successfully uncover students’ learning processes.

Designing the Future(s) of the University

Designing the Future(s) supports curricular innovation as an inquiry into new ways for Georgetown’s educational practices to align with its institutional identity and values. This work is especially urgent in the context of the institution’s social obligations to serving as diverse a student body as possible, while living out its multiple missions in a competitive global landscape.

Core Pathways

Core Pathways offers students a novel means to navigate their Core Curriculum requirements through a sustained, holistic engagement with a complex global problem. The theme for the inaugural year of Core Pathways is Climate Change. At the heart of the Core Curriculum, the Core Pathways projects provides an innovative platform to introduce students to complex moral problems, enhance the development of their personal epistemology with compelling moral and ethical exercises and frameworks, and engage faculty from a wide range of disciplines in an intellectual interdisciplinary community.

Marino Workshop

The Marino Workshop is the first academic experience new students engage in when coming to Georgetown. During the summer prior to matriculation, the university asks all new students to read a selected text by an international author. At the beginning of the fall semester, the author comes to campus to discuss the novel and the life of writing, creating an important community-building experience.

Provost Innovation in Teaching Showcase

The inaugural ceremony for the Provost Innovation in Teaching Awards marks the launch of a new case-series on faculty innovation called the Provost Innovation in Teaching Showcase. Throughout the year, case studies of innovative teaching and learning will be shared with the campus community through a web-based library of innovations. In addition to showcasing the Provost Innovation in Teaching Awardees, the showcase will also feature a selection of particularly meritorious nominations for the award.
