Jake Pasner and Sejin Paik Receive Gates Foundation Support for Policy-for-the-People AI Tool

Assistant Research Professors, Jake Pasner and Sejin Paik received $497,389 from the Gates Foundation for Policy-for-the-People (P4P), an AI-supported statute research tool designed to help State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) staff navigate complex state and federal education policy. P4P enables non-legal experts to ask plain-language questions, such as how state education data privacy laws compare to federal requirements, and receive responses grounded in direct citations from authoritative state and federal code. The resulting tool will be publicly available and designed to reduce time, ambiguity, and burden when researching statutes. Readers will note that while the tool will be tuned for education statutes, the final product will be able to facilitate research across all state and federal codes!
