Charge of the Main Campus Research Executive Committee

The purpose of the Research Executive Committee (REC) is to provide a mechanism for communication between Main Campus Faculty and the Office of the Provost regarding policies, procedures, operations, facilities, and other matters that affect the research enterprise. The REC’s primary role is to advise the Provost and Vice Provost for Research regarding decisions relevant to the research enterprise at Georgetown.  The membership of the REC consists of representatives from the Main Campus Faculty nominated by the Provost and members nominated by the Main Campus Executive Faculty, with up to half of the members coming from each mechanism. The Provost’s Office and the MCEF will coordinate to ensure that the membership covers the range of faculty research as completely as practical.  Members will be appointed by the Vice Provost for Research for two year terms, ordinarily renewable twice.  Additional members may be appointed from other campuses or administrative units.  Whenever possible, the Provost’s Office will seek feedback from the REC prior to any decision that significantly impacts the research enterprise at Georgetown.

The full committee will meet roughly monthly throughout the academic year.  All committee members are encouraged to propose items to include on the agenda, which is set by the Vice Provost for Research. It is anticipated that subcommittees and working groups will be formed periodically to conduct business of the REC, composed of REC members and, where appropriate, additional members of the Georgetown community.
