Shweta Bansal Launches the Global Society for Infectious Disease Dynamics

Professor Shweta Bansal, Department of Biology, launched the Global Society for Infectious Disease Dynamics (GSIDD) of which she is chairing the Founding Committee. This will be an international professional society for the field of infectious disease dynamics.

Infectious disease dynamics and modeling is a scientific field that uses mathematical and computational approaches to understand how infectious diseases spread through populations, evolve over time, and respond to control measures. Researchers in this field develop models to predict disease outbreaks, evaluate intervention strategies (like vaccination campaigns or social distancing), and inform public health policy decisions.

The field currently lacks any national or international professional societies, so GSIDD aims to strengthen connections between researchers worldwide, promote methodological innovation, support early career researchers, and enhance the translation of scientific insights into effective public health policy.
