SEIU Local 500

Georgetown University recognizes SEIU Local 500 (new window) as the sole and exclusive collective bargaining representative of all part-time faculty employed to teach in the programs and academic units of the Employer’s Main Campus in Washington D.C., as defined within the scope of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement provides that any adjunct faculty member covered by the Agreement must either voluntarily become a member in good standing of the Union or shall be required as a condition of continued employment to pay the Union an agency fee, unless an exemption set forth in the Agreement applies.  SEIU provides an application form which is available online:

  • Go to the SEIU home page at www.seiu500.org and select “My Workplace” in the menu across the top.
  • Scroll down to Georgetown University.
  • Scroll down to “Become a Member” and select “Click Here…”
  • Complete an online application

*Note that you select the applicable exemption status from the drop-down menu.

In this form you may indicate whether you want to join the union or pay agency fees, or request an exemption based on one of the categories listed in Article 3.B of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. If approved for an exemption, a donation to one of the Jesuit charities listed in the section “Donations in Lieu of SEIU Agency Fee” will be required.
