Anita Gonzalez Receives a Commission Award for the Opera “Finding the Light”

Professor Anita Gonzalez, Departments of Black Studies and Performing Arts, received a Commission Award for the opera “Finding the Light” with Jasmine Arielle Barnes. This Award comes from the Opera America Commissions of Women Composers (Librettists) and is intended to promote the development of works by women and to bring visibility to women composers across the field. “Finding the Light” explores the legacy of Black female opera performers, and reflects on their stories.
