International Collaborative Grants

International Collaborative Grants support joint conferences, workshops, or seminars involving at least two full-time Georgetown faculty and at least one foreign collaborator. These grants, of up to $15,000, cover eligible economy travel and meeting expenses.

Eligibility

Teams of two or more full-time Georgetown faculty are eligible to apply.

Scope

Grants support the organization and execution of meetings, such as conferences, workshops, or seminars, designed to further Georgetown faculty research in collaboration with international partners. Meetings may be held either on campus or abroad, and must either support the development of a new research project and follow-on grant proposal, or advance an existing project towards completion.

Topics

Topics should have a prominent global, international, or transnational dimension.

For proposals related to the global humanities, applicants may also consider applying for the Global Humanities Faculty Seminars. Applicants can apply to both grant programs with the same project but should submit separate applications for each program.

Timing

Proposals will be considered by a faculty committee in October and March of each year. Applications for the spring 2026 cycle are due by noon EST on Monday, March 9, 2026 for projects to be carried out by December 31, 2027.

Application Process

Applicants should submit their materials in one combined PDF file to viceprovostforresearch@georgetown.edu, with a subject line of “LASTNAME-International Collaborative Grant.” Applications must include:

Decision Criteria

The committee will evaluate proposals with attention to the academic merits of the overall project, the envisioned contribution of the meeting(s), the soundness of the budget, and the availability of funds. For new research projects, the strength of plans for developing grant proposals for further funding is critically important. For existing research projects, the rationale for the proposed meeting(s) within the context of the wider project must be clear.

Notification and Execution

The committee will notify applicants of its decisions within a month of the submission deadline. Funds will be transferred to faculty members’ departments for distribution in accordance with the approved budget, and all funds not used will be returned. Grants are to be carried out in compliance with relevant university policies regarding travel, funding, and ethics. Within three months of the completion of the grant, a 250-word report outlining its execution, impact, budget expenditures, and any next steps is to be submitted to the Office of the Provost at viceprovostforresearch@georgetown.edu.

Questions may be directed to the Vice Provost for Research at viceprovostforresearch@georgetown.edu.
