Happy Holidays

Thank you for your hard work and continued commitment to our mission during these very challenging times, and I hope you have a restful and restorative break. We continue to look for ways to better support our research enterprise, and hope to have more to share when we come back together in January. Happy Holidays!

Sharing Research Highlights

Starting in January we will be collecting and sharing Research Accolades. We’ll maintain a webpage to highlight your accomplishments, and will include selections in this newsletter. We need your contributions! We want to celebrate the accomplishments of our faculty, including honors and fellowships, paper or book awards, appointment to important positions in your professional societies, or other accolades. This is an opportunity to highlight the range of great work we do here, so please also share other research accomplishments such as the publication of a major monograph or a high impact paper, whether your own or on behalf of a colleague, by filling out this form . We will continues to list new external awards in the Provost’s Newsletter, but can highlight them here as well.

Spring Internal Grants

The submission window for the Spring Internal grants is opening soon, including the Pilot Research Grants , for up to $20k research expenses directly related to the submission of a proposal for large extramural funding, and Research Infrastructure Awards , for up to $50k towards major equipment and foundational expenditures at the departmental or research group level. The application window will open December 17, with a closing deadline of January 29. Follow the links above for details on the programs and instructions for applying.

External Funding Resources Updates

Our work to support your efforts to adapt to the changing  external funding environment through Operation Mindshift  are continuing. The link now includes the recording of the 3rd workshop, co-hosted by the Office of Institutional Partnerships (OIP) and the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC),  which featured insights from successful Georgetown faculty and center leaders and provided attendees with a summary of best practices for establishing and sustaining productive relationships with foundations. We welcome your suggestions for future workshops or other ways to support your work.

Checking Research Fund Balances

Your JORA grants manager should be able to provide you with information about accounts stemming from external awards, but they do not have access to  research accounts from internal awards, startup, etc. Department administrators can access this information, but for those who want to look for themselves, this short document   provides instructions for checking the balance of your research accounts in GMS.
