Interdisciplinary Initiatives

The Vice President of Interdisciplinary Initiatives, Dr. Kathy Maguire-Zeiss, collaborates with the Provost and EVP of GUMC to advance interdisciplinary efforts and identify and support innovative programs in education, research, and service. Georgetown’s approach to interdisciplinary study emphasizes the integration of academic inquiry with its mission of cura personalis—care for the whole person—and service to the greater good.

“There is an important value in a university environment that nurtures combining knowledge across traditional boundaries. Such campuses tend to be more nimble at exploiting new opportunities to solve important problems. They are also more resilient to changes in the external world…” – Robert M. Groves, Georgetown University Provost 2012 – 2024.
